A man in suit and tie with his arms crossed.

Cavalry Portfolio Services is an notorious junk debt buyer, buying up portfolios of old debt from banks, credit card companies, hospitals, doctors, cell phone companies and car companies for pennies on the dollar.

According to the New York State Unified Court System, Cavalry filed only 699 New York debt collection lawsuits in 2016 which is less than half the 1,933 they filed in 2015.

Cavalry is exclusively represented in New York by the debt collection law-firm mill Schachter Portnoy, L.L.C.  Schachter Portnoy is a New Jersey firm with its principal office in Princeton.  However, in New York, Schachter Portnoy’s address is conveniently the exact same address where Cavalry’s headquarters are:

500 Summit Lake Drive
Valhalla, NY 10595

Cavalry and Schachter Portnoy are notorious violators of federal debt collection laws known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and are sued regularly by consumers for these violations.  The FDCPA is a federal law that regulates the collection of consumer debts. It precludes third party debt collectors from using false, misleading, deceptive and harassing debt collection tactics.
