Student Loan Forgiveness

Don't Pay More Than The Law Requires!

Under certain circumstances, portions of federal student loans may qualify for loan forgiveness where the government may forgive part, or all, of a borrower’s federal student loans. This means that the borrower will no longer be obligated to make loan payments.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)

One of the better-known federal student loan forgiveness plans is Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on federal Direct Loans after the borrower has made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program

Another federal student loan forgiveness plan is the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program (TLFP). TLFP gives certain schoolteachers and other educators student loan relief. Under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, if a student loan borrower teaches full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, the borrower may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized student loans and Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.

Income-Driven Repayment Forgiveness

Federal student loans can be repaid under a variety of income-driven repayment plans (IDR). Payments under are based on the borrower’s income and family size. Only a portion of the overall repayment obligation is paid within a certain period of time, with the remaining balance being forgiven at the end of the repayment term.
